Brief
The idea was inspired by the name “Beagle,” referencing the HMS Beagle, the ship Charles Darwin sailed on during his research. Their goal was to create something visually powerful for the homepage, but it needed to feel meaningful and connected to their brand story.

Challenges
The challenge was not only technical but conceptual. Creating an AI-generated animation of Darwin is possible. Creating one that truly represents the company’s identity is different. Before starting production, I asked strategic questions. What was the real objective behind using Darwin? What did he symbolize for them? How could this connect to creativity, exploration, and AI talent? Through research, I discovered that Darwin was very young when he sailed on the Beagle. That insight changed the direction of the project. Instead of portraying an older and already established Darwin, I proposed representing a younger version. Youth communicates curiosity, exploration, and potential, which aligns much more naturally with a company that helps discover emerging creative and AI talent.

Value Delivered
I began by developing visual references and testing Darwin’s facial features using MidJourney until we achieved a strong and believable result. After several iterations, we reached a version that felt cinematic and aligned with the brand. From there, I created the animated hero video for the website. However, I did not want to limit the contribution to a single asset. If the hero video had a strong visual identity, the rest of the brand needed to evolve with it. I proposed an illustration style inspired by Darwin’s scientific sketches, using hand-drawn pen-like strokes to simulate how he might have documented his discoveries. In addition, I created website mockups and proposed a photography direction to align future social and web assets. This allowed the client to visualize a broader brand evolution instead of just a standalone animation.
